Prayer Shawl Ministry

prayershawlWesley's Prayer Shawl Group began meeting in July, 2007; gathering to knit and crochet shawls in prayer. We have a loving, prayerful group of about 25 knitters/crocheters; but will always welcome more! We knit shawls for those experiencing difficulty– grief, illness, or emotional distress; and sometimes give shawls for a celebration (wedding) or life transition (moving). As we knit, we pray for the person who will receive the shawl; and as a group we pray over the newly made shawls. These shawls are meant to be a tangible reminder of God's love and care (and our congregation's love and care as well). We have given out about 300 shawls so far.

We meet twice a month (in the Garden Room), on the 2nd and 4th Mondays, from 2:00 to 3:30

We meet to knit and crochet; to pray for those receiving shawls; and the newest shawls are blessed by one of our ministers. We share patterns, techniques, stories and prayer.

If you would like to knit/crochet shawls, but cannot come at our meeting time, we will be glad to accept them, and deliver them. If you would like to learn to knit or crochet, we have an evening meeting in the fall for that purpose with willing teachers. (You are also welcome to come to our regular meetings, and will find help and encouragement.) If you would like to support our ministry monetarily, we welcome funds for purchasing yarn and needles. If you know of someone who would benefit from a prayer shawl, please let us know. (They do not have to be members of our congregation.) We wish to share God's love to all who are in need.
