Buy-a-Mile for youth mission trips

In July, our senior high youth and adult youth leaders will travel 474 miles from Wesley UMC to Hazard, Kentucky. We will serve as missionaries in that community by completing home repair projects and leading local children and youth in a Vacation Bible School program that we develop.

How can you be part of this mission? Please keep in prayer the mission teams, and the community we will serve. Also, please “buy a mile” in financial support of our mission efforts.

Help us get the mission vans to Kentucky and back! Visit our tables in the lobby between and after worship services on May 11 to make a donation. Donations can also be made by leaving your check made to Wesley UMC (include Buy a Mile in the memo portion) at the church office. The suggested donation is $5 per mile, though gifts of any amount are appreciated. We hope to sell 948 miles to help fund a portion of our mission efforts in this year’s senior high mission trip.

Contact Frank Newburn (ext. 24) or Stacy Ash (ext. 16) at 827-8046 with any questions.

The Ark will float!

After our junior high youth mission trip to the Heifer International ranch in Arkansas last summer, we decided to act as missionaries by sending an entire ark of animals to families in need. Our goal was to raise $5,000 that will pay for two or more of every animal that Heifer raises. Every family that receives livestock will pass on one or more of the offspring to other families in their communities. Every gift will multiply for years to come.

Last Sunday during the youth led worship services we asked you to help us reach our goal. We needed around $700 to finish the collection we had worked on all year. Donations from the youth led services were over $2,000! By collecting quarters every week in youth group, and from your donations throughout the year and on last week's youth led worship services, we have raised $6,178. The money collected above the cost of the Ark will be used to purchase additional animals and seeds from Heifer.

Thank you for opening your hearts, and your wallets. When the junior high youth proposed this undertaking last year of collecting $5,000 for the Ark, we wondered if it was too large of a goal. We have learned to raise the bar, and reach high, and to serve with our hearts beyond what we can see. Thank you for stepping out with our youth as missionaries. Thank you for your offerings.
